10/8 Danger Mouse: not just a dope-ass producer

I've begun watching Danger Mouse-- the 1980s British spy-spoof cartoon following the adventures of a spunky mouse and his bumbling hamster sidekick (Penfold) trying to thwart the schemes of Baron Greenback, a toad with hate in his heart. The show is pretty 'meh', as formulaic as the Sherlock Holmes-meets-James Bond element might suggest, but it's fascinating too. The show is almost Formulaic Dada, like a madlib-- the same story arc appears in each episode, but the shit that goes on within the episodes make absolutely little sense and follow a twisted logic, if it follows any at all.

Example: Baron Greenback invents a machine that turns elephants into sugar cubes, with the intention of placing said sugar cubes in the tea rooms of all the major world leaders, because when the cubes get wet, they turn back into elephants. I surmise-- it's never made clear-- that this will either kill the world leaders (though in its rest run the elephant just looks confused and no one is harmed), or confuse them so much as to render them unable to lead effectively. When the Baron and his negroid crow sidekicks discover DM and Penfold, they shoot the hamster with the sugar cube laser. Except it doesn't make him a sugar cube-- it turns him into George of the Jungle, complete with vine-swinging into trees, which he snaps out of as soon as it's convenient to do so. The Baron is thwarted when the one elephant they forgot fills its trunk with water and blasts the Baron's UFO thing (oh yeah, he can fly, and has a pet caterpillar that looks like a ferbie-worm) which is full of sugar cubes and the UFO explodes in an orgy of confused elephants.
