3/12 The Adelaide Cup, or Why I Spent A Public Holiday At School

Line of the day: "Republicans don't share a close relationship with the truth." --Sally Fields, Brothers & Sisters

Quote of the day: "He's got an old head."

Read 'World Affairs' to the class and got a response so overwhelming that it floored me. Phillip recommended a Tasmanian magazine that he thinks would love to publish it. That was an exciting start to my afternoon, and Martina and I went to the pub to celebrate. Three pints and three hours of cathartic conversation later we came home. She started pouring wine; I started on the brandy. Two drinks later and I'm a fair a bit trashed, thinking about dinner because I've eaten virtually nothing in 27 hours, but knowing I probably won't get to it. Maybe a bowl of Cornflakes before bed. I'm making travel arrangements for Easter. It's going to be gut-busting expensive, but who really gives a fuck. Martina asked me what I was after down here. I looked her in the eye and just said "the experience" and I god damn meant it.

Drink Count: 5
