8/3 Coetzee Day, and I'm just lazy.

I have no excuse for updating late-- I just couldn't have been fucked to get up once I laid down last night. But it was Coetzee day, and I heard the man himself read from his new novel (Diary of a Bad Year, out in Oz soon, internationally in December). It sparked a bunch of excellent ideas and I went home and wrote for a while, finally getting over the anger-hump that hampered me yesterday. Read some more Fitzgerald (except for his exceptional racism, he is pure joy to read) and went to the British with folks and more folks and had some weird girl pick me out because of my accent then ask if Martina was my mother when she arrived (ha!). But our good 'tenders finally got a deal on the Cooper's Dark I like so much so I got a couple wicked cheap pints on top of the post-writing evening wines (and pre-Coetzee vodka&tonic :0)

If Zach Galifianakis' short lived television shows, amazing stand-up, movie appearances, poetry, and beard weren't enough reasons to love him-- he's a music junkie like me and has friends like Fiona Apple and Kanye West. Check this shit out. Also look for Bonnie Prince Billy himself, Will Oldham.

Worst Album Cover #16From Wikipedia:

Zip Zap Rap was a 1986 single released by Devastatin' Dave The Turntable Slave. It is backed up by a group of kids. This song is meant to be educational, as it explains the consequences of drug use. It is also infamous for its cover, which was cited by The Guardian as one of the worst of all time (You don't think I hunted for these fuckers myself, did you?).

Lyrics, you ask for, why not?? Here's a selection...

Zoom zoom with a scooby doo bop,
Buy yourself into projects you're tryin to cop,
Rip and a rap I wrote with a rhyme,
I think you better call the cocaine hotline,

KIDS RAP!

Don't be a fool,
Stay in school!
Don't get high and drive a car,
You will not get very far

Don't be a dope,
Don't smoke that coke!
We're talkin' bout cocain,
Its not good for your brain

Kids against drugs let me hear you gettin' down,
While the rhythm of the boogie bass rocks the ground

(retarded breathing solo)

(children screaming for joy) PARTY OVER HERE!

I wish you ill, Ice-T!!
